Amalapuram Powerlifter Ragireddy Sravan Kumar Wins Six Medals at National Championship in Delhi

AMALAPURAM / NEW DELHI — Ragireddy Sravan Kumar, a powerlifter from Amalapuram in Andhra Pradesh’s Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, has made a notable mark at a recent national-levelpowerlifting championship in New Delhi, returning with a six-medal haul across multiple strength events.

Representing Telangana in the 67 kg weight category, Sravan secured two gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal. His gold-medal performances came in the Extreme Bicep Curl and Extreme Overhead Press. He followed those results with silver medals in the Strict Bicep Curl, Strict Overhead Press and Bench Press (Slingshot). His sixth medal was a bronze in the WPC Deadlift, where he lifted 162.5 kg.

The competition brought together strength athletes from across the country and was conducted under the WPC India framework. WPC India identifies Daljit Singh as its President and states that the organisation conducts district, state and national championships while also supporting athletes who progress to international competitions.

For Sravan, the latest result is particularly significant because competitive sport forms only one part of his demanding routine. Currently based in Hyderabad, he manages a 9-to-6 professional job while continuing his own training and coaching responsibilities. After his working hours, he trains local athletes at a gym from 7 PM to 10 PM. Maintaining this schedule requires regularity, discipline and careful management of training time alongside professional commitments.

His sporting journey also includes experience in bodybuilding, where he has earned multiple awards. That background has provided a foundation for his strength-oriented preparation and helped him carry experience from one discipline into another. His continued participation in powerlifting has now added another dimension to his competitive record.

The six-medal performance in Delhi demonstrates the range of events in which Sravan competed. The two golds in Extreme Bicep Curl and Extreme Overhead Press were complemented by three silver finishes in Strict Bicep Curl, Strict Overhead Press and Bench Press (Slingshot). The bronze-winning WPC Deadlift, completed with a 162.5 kg lift, further underlined his performance across different strength disciplines.

While medal counts often provide the clearest summary of a competition, Sravan’s preparation also reflects the less visible side of competitive sport. Balancing employment with personal training and coaching means that preparation must continue alongside a full working schedule. The routine also requires consistency outside the competition arena, where athletes spend considerable time refining strength, technique and conditioning.

Sravan’s achievement has also brought attention to his sporting roots in Amalapuram. His representation of Telangana while maintaining strong links with Andhra Pradesh has given the performance a wider regional significance, with sports followers and well-wishers in both Telugu states celebrating his national-level result.

The latest championship has strengthened Sravan’s focus on progressing further in competitive powerlifting. His experience across bodybuilding and powerlifting, combined with his recent six-medal performance, provides additional competitive experience as he looks toward higher levels of the sport.

For Sravan, the Delhi championship therefore represents more than a successful weekend of competition. It is a reflection of a longer commitment to strength sports and of the discipline required to continue competing while working and coaching others. With national-level medals now added to his record, the powerlifter from Amalapuram will be looking to build on this performance and pursue further opportunities in the sport, including his ambition of representing India internationally.

The breadth of his medal tally is also notable because it spans curl, press, bench press and deadlift events, rather than being concentrated in a single category. That variety places emphasis on overall strength, event-specific technique and the ability to adapt to different competitive requirements. For an athlete who is also involved in coaching, the experience can add another practical dimension to his understanding of training and performance
