KRAFTON is preparing to expand its popular battle royale franchise with BGMI Lite, a lighter version of Battlegrounds Mobile India designed to reach players using less powerful smartphones. The company has confirmed that Android users in India will be able to pre-register for the new game from August 25, 2026, ahead of its planned release later this year.
The upcoming title is expected to address one of the biggest barriers for players who cannot comfortably run the full version of BGMI on their existing devices. As the main game has grown with additional content and graphical improvements, its hardware and storage requirements have also increased. BGMI Lite is being positioned as a more accessible alternative while retaining the core battle royale experience.
BGMI Lite pre-registration details
Pre-registration will initially be available exclusively to Android users in India through Google Play. Players can register ahead of the launch so that the game can be installed when it officially becomes available. KRAFTON has not yet announced an exact launch day, but the company has committed to releasing BGMI Lite in India by the end of 2026.
The first download is expected to be approximately 1GB. That makes BGMI Lite considerably more manageable for devices with limited storage compared with a full-scale modern mobile game. However, the final storage requirement could increase after additional game resources and updates are downloaded.
Built for a wider range of smartphones
The main objective behind BGMI Lite is to make the franchise accessible to a larger number of smartphone users, particularly those with older or more affordable Android devices. KRAFTON has confirmed the lighter download size, although detailed minimum hardware specifications have not been fully disclosed.
This could make the new edition particularly relevant for players who experience performance limitations with the standard version of BGMI. The exact improvements in frame-rate stability, graphics settings and device compatibility will become clearer as the launch approaches.
Existing BGMI players do not need an account transfer
Another important detail is that existing BGMI players will not have to transfer their accounts before using BGMI Lite. KRAFTON has said that the Lite version can be accessed separately using existing BGMI account credentials.
The company has not yet provided all details about how progression, items and other account-related features will work between the two versions. Players should therefore wait for the final official information before assuming that every element of their existing BGMI profile will function identically in the Lite edition.
What about iPhone users?
For now, Android is the only platform covered by the announced pre-registration schedule. KRAFTON has said that information regarding iOS availability and pre-registration will be provided later.
With the full launch still scheduled for later in 2026, more information about supported devices, gameplay features and system requirements is likely to emerge before release. For Android users, however, August 25 marks the first major opportunity to register interest in BGMI Lite ahead of its India debut.
