BJP Calls Rahul Gandhi a ‘Lousy Con Artist’ After His ‘Foreign Help’ Remark Against PM Modi

BJP Calls Rahul Gandhi a ‘Lousy Con Artist’ After His ‘Foreign Help’ Remark Against PM Modi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of relying on foreign assistance to become and remain in power. The exchange triggered a fresh political confrontation, with BJP spokesperson C.R. Kesavan accusing Gandhi of hypocrisy and questioning his past statements during overseas visits.

The controversy began after Gandhi challenged Modi to an open debate over allegations of foreign influence in Indian politics and the country’s financial system. The BJP rejected his claims and argued that his own remarks abroad had invited questions about foreign interference in India’s domestic affairs.

The war of words has added another chapter to the ongoing confrontation between the ruling party and the Congress over national security, foreign influence and the role of the Opposition.

Rahul Gandhi Accuses PM Modi of Relying on Foreign Support

The dispute intensified after Modi addressed the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations in Gujarat on October 31, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

During his speech, the Prime Minister criticised the Opposition, accusing it of obstructing the government’s work and warning that certain forces were attempting to divide the country, spread rumours and damage India’s international image.

Modi also questioned who was meeting whom overseas and whether anti-India forces were supporting particular individuals or political narratives.

Responding to the remarks, Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of misleading the country. In a post on social media platform X, the Congress leader alleged that Modi had become Prime Minister because of foreign assistance and continued to hold the position with such support.

Gandhi further claimed that foreign interests exercised considerable influence over India’s financial system and that international social media platforms backed the Prime Minister.

He challenged Modi to participate in an open debate, declaring that he was prepared to discuss the allegations at any venue and at any time. Gandhi also suggested that the Prime Minister would avoid the challenge because he was afraid of what the Congress leader knew about him.

C.R. Kesavan Hits Back With Sharp Criticism

The BJP responded forcefully through national spokesperson C.R. Kesavan, who described Gandhi as a “lousy con artist” and accused him of making misleading claims that ultimately damaged his own credibility.

Kesavan argued that Gandhi’s accusation against Modi was inconsistent with his own previous statements about India’s democratic institutions during foreign visits.

The BJP spokesperson specifically referred to Gandhi’s March 2023 visit to London, where the Congress leader discussed the state of Indian democracy during interactions with British parliamentarians and other audiences.

Kesavan highlighted Gandhi’s statement that the struggle over democracy was not merely an Indian battle, interpreting it as an appeal for foreign involvement in India’s internal political affairs.

The BJP leader used the remarks to question Gandhi’s position on foreign interference, arguing that the Congress leader should explain why he had previously raised concerns about Indian democracy before international audiences.

BJP Raises Questions About George Soros-Linked Organisations

Kesavan also raised allegations concerning links between Congress leaders and international organisations that the BJP has associated with billionaire George Soros.

He questioned the reported association of Sonia Gandhi with the Forum of Democratic Leaders in the Asia-Pacific and referred to allegations about the organisation’s positions on Kashmir.

The BJP spokesperson also mentioned US-based short seller Hindenburg Research and German academic Cornelia Woll while questioning what he described as connections between Congress figures and organisations associated with Soros-funded institutions.

These claims formed part of the BJP’s broader political attack. They remain allegations raised by the party and should not be treated as established evidence that Gandhi or the Congress coordinated foreign interference in India.

The Congress leadership’s alleged associations with such organisations have repeatedly featured in political disputes between the two parties.

Rahul Gandhi’s Overseas Visits Become Another Flashpoint

The BJP also questioned the frequency and transparency of Gandhi’s foreign trips. Kesavan asked whom the Congress leader met during these visits and what subjects were discussed, arguing that the matter deserved public scrutiny because Gandhi serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Other BJP leaders have similarly criticised Gandhi’s overseas engagements, alleging that his public comments abroad could influence international perceptions of India.

The Congress, meanwhile, has consistently used its public statements and political campaigns to challenge the government on democratic institutions, economic policy and national governance.

The latest exchange reflects the competing narratives adopted by the two parties: the BJP has emphasised national security and alleged foreign interference, while Gandhi has challenged the government over its own claims about external influence.

Political Confrontation Continues

The dispute has yet to produce any formal debate between Gandhi and Modi. Instead, both sides have continued to exchange accusations through public speeches and social media statements.

At the heart of the controversy are questions about foreign influence, political accountability and the limits of criticism directed at elected leaders.

For now, Gandhi’s demand for an open debate and the BJP’s counterattack have intensified the political rhetoric without independently establishing the competing allegations. The controversy is likely to remain part of the wider political contest as the two parties continue to challenge each other’s claims and credibility.
