CJP Leaders Claim Possible Arrest Ahead of October 10 Delhi Protest Over SIR

CJP Leaders Claim Possible Arrest Ahead of October 10 Delhi Protest Over SIR

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das has alleged that he and several other senior leaders could be arrested ahead of the organisation’s planned October 10 protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The claim comes as the group prepares another major demonstration demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

Das named CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Ratna Singh among those he believes could face arrest. However, the allegation has not been independently established, and Das did not publicly provide evidence for the claimed government plan.

CJP Calls for October 10 Mobilisation

The CJP has announced a fresh mobilisation in Delhi for October 10 if Gyanesh Kumar does not step down. The organisation has been opposing the SIR process and has raised allegations concerning electoral-roll revisions.

The proposed demonstration follows recent protests in Delhi and Mumbai. CJP leaders have sought to build support among young people while presenting the campaign as a broader movement concerning electoral transparency and democratic rights.

Das, in a social media post, urged supporters to continue the campaign even if the organisation’s prominent leaders were detained. He also called for a large turnout beginning October 10, arguing that possible arrests would not end the movement.

Claims Follow Mumbai Protest

The latest statements come days after the CJP held a demonstration at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park on October 2. Police had denied permission for the gathering, citing restrictions governing the use of the venue as well as concerns about traffic and noise.

Despite the denial, the protest went ahead. Mumbai Police subsequently registered a case against several CJP leaders and more than 400 supporters over the gathering and alleged violations. The case included allegations relating to unlawful assembly and disobedience of official directions.

The Mumbai episode has added to tensions surrounding the organisation’s campaign against the Election Commission. CJP leaders have continued to signal that further demonstrations are planned despite the legal and administrative action following the Shivaji Park gathering.

Leaders Say Protest Will Continue

Ashutosh Ranka has separately claimed that he, Dipke and Das could face detention before October 10, possibly under the National Security Act or comparable legal provisions. Those claims, like Das’s earlier allegation, have not been confirmed by authorities.

The CJP’s campaign is therefore entering a more closely watched phase as the October 10 demonstration approaches. The group says the protest will focus on its demand for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and objections to the SIR exercise.

For now, there is no confirmed announcement of arrests of the named CJP leaders based on the allegations reported. The immediate focus remains on whether the October 10 mobilisation proceeds as planned and how authorities respond to the proposed demonstration in Delhi.
