India Gets First Direct Flight to Mongolia as Hunnu Air Launches Delhi–Ulaanbaatar Route

Travelling from India to Mongolia has become significantly easier with the launch of the first direct flight connecting New Delhi and Ulaanbaatar. Operated by Mongolia-based Hunnu Air, the new service began on September 28, 2026, offering passengers a faster alternative to journeys that previously involved stopovers in cities such as Beijing, Incheon or Hong Kong.

The new connection reduces the journey between the two capitals from approximately 13–18 hours to around five and a half hours. It is expected to support tourism, business travel, medical visits and stronger people-to-people connections between the two countries. <Cite refs={["turn737661news2","turn737661news7"]}/>

Hunnu Air’s Delhi–Ulaanbaatar Flight: Schedule and Frequency

The airline’s new service operates once a week, every Monday. According to its published timetable, flight MR302 departs Delhi at 8:00 am and reaches Ulaanbaatar at 4:00 pm local time. The return service, MR301, leaves Ulaanbaatar at 3:30 am and arrives in Delhi at 7:00 am.

The schedule is listed as effective from September 28, 2026, to March 27, 2027. Travellers should check the airline’s latest timetable before booking, as flight schedules may change. <Cite refs={["turn737661search10","turn737661news3"]}/>

The inaugural flight from Ulaanbaatar arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on the morning of September 28. The first return flight departed Delhi later that day, marking the start of regular air connectivity between the two capitals.

Easier Access to Mongolia’s Landscapes and Heritage

Mongolia is known for its wide grasslands, mountains, deserts, nomadic traditions and historic sites. The new direct route could make the country more accessible to Indian travellers interested in destinations beyond conventional international holiday choices.

Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian capital, offers access to cultural attractions and serves as a starting point for journeys into the country’s countryside. Visitors can explore historic monasteries, traditional communities and landscapes that have shaped Mongolia’s identity.

The route may also encourage travel during the winter season, when Mongolia offers a very different experience from its warmer months. However, visitors should plan carefully around weather conditions and travel distances, particularly when exploring areas outside the capital.

New Opportunities for Tourism and Business

The direct service is expected to benefit travel in both directions. Mongolian visitors travelling to India may find it easier to reach destinations associated with Buddhism and the country’s cultural heritage.

The route could also support medical travel and business exchanges by reducing the time required to move between the two countries. Faster connectivity may help strengthen commercial relationships and make meetings, trade visits and other professional travel more convenient.

Officials have also highlighted the potential benefits for cargo movement, as direct air links can offer faster transportation options for suitable goods.

A Step Forward in India–Mongolia Relations

The flight launch follows an announcement made during Mongolian President U Khurelsukh’s state visit to India in October 2025. The new service reflects continuing efforts to deepen cooperation between the countries.

For Indian travellers, the biggest change is the reduced journey time and the removal of a transit stop. With direct flights now available, Mongolia has become a more practical option for those planning an international trip from Delhi.

The weekly frequency means travellers will need to plan their dates around the available service. Even so, the launch marks an important development in India–Mongolia connectivity and creates fresh possibilities for tourism, trade and cultural exchange.
