Punjab's political landscape has witnessed an important organisational development as Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has resigned from his position as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC). Why Did Raja Warring Resign?

The situation reportedly intensified after the party decided in July 2026 to continue with Warring as state president while assigning former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi the responsibility of leading the campaign committee.

According to reports, Warring was informed about the leadership's decision to replace him before submitting his resignation.
Sachin Pilot's Role in the Leadership Change
The appointment of Sachin Pilot as Congress general secretary in-charge of Punjab became an important development in the ongoing organisational process.
Pilot replaced Bhupesh Baghel in September 2026 and subsequently held discussions with senior leaders and party representatives across the state.
His responsibility included understanding internal concerns, reviewing organisational functioning and preparing a roadmap for the party ahead of the next assembly elections.

Several names have emerged as potential candidates for the top organisational position.
Former Punjab minister Vijay Inder Singla is among the prominent leaders reportedly being considered. Other names include Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh, Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
Rana KP Singh and Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria have also figured in discussions surrounding the possible leadership transition.
However, the Congress leadership has not officially confirmed the appointment. The final decision will depend on the party high command.

The leadership transition comes ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, making organisational stability an important concern for the Congress.
