Lucknow, September 20, 2026: A meeting of the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Lucknow witnessed a heated exchange between two party leaders, creating an uncomfortable situation in the presence of party president Akhilesh Yadav. The meeting had been convened as part of organisational preparations ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, but the disagreement between leaders from Etah and Kasganj reportedly escalated into a public verbal confrontation.
Heated Exchange During Party Meeting
The meeting brought together around 250 senior leaders and office-bearers associated with Etah and Kasganj. According to reports, the dispute involved Samajwadi Party leader Manjeet Yadav and former Etah district panchayat chairman Jugendra Singh Yadav.
The disagreement reportedly began after Manjeet Yadav objected to remarks made during the meeting. What started as an argument subsequently intensified, with both leaders allegedly exchanging heated words in front of other party members and Akhilesh Yadav.
The incident attracted attention because the meeting was intended to focus on strengthening the party organisation and preparing for the upcoming electoral cycle. Instead, the confrontation brought internal differences among local leaders into the spotlight.
Akhilesh Yadav Reacts to the Incident
Akhilesh Yadav reportedly expressed displeasure over the behaviour of the leaders. Reports said that after witnessing the confrontation, he criticised the conduct and left the meeting.
According to a report by Jansatta, Yadav described the episode as a result of the “heat of money”, while indicating that such conduct was not acceptable for those responsible for running the organisation. The remark was made in the context of the public altercation and the behaviour displayed during the meeting.
The episode therefore became more than a brief disagreement, as the party leadership subsequently took organisational action involving the two districts.
Etah and Kasganj Party Units Dissolved
Following the meeting, the Samajwadi Party dissolved its organisational units in Etah and Kasganj. Reports said the decision covered the district committees as well as associated frontal organisations.
Navbharat Times reported that the move followed the dispute and was intended to address organisational issues in the two districts. Other reports also confirmed that the party took action shortly after the confrontation.
The decision comes as political parties in Uttar Pradesh begin intensifying organisational preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections. For the Samajwadi Party, meetings with district-level leaders are part of efforts to assess and restructure its organisation ahead of the electoral contest.
Internal Organisation in Focus
The Lucknow incident has placed attention on the functioning of the SP's local organisational units in Etah and Kasganj. While the immediate dispute involved two leaders, the subsequent dissolution of the district-level structures indicates that the party leadership has chosen to address the matter at the organisational level.
For now, the focus is expected to remain on how the Samajwadi Party restructures its local units in the two districts and prepares its organisation for the political activity leading up to the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
