Trump Offers UFC Chief Dana White White House Press Secretary Role, but He Keeps Everyone Guessing

US President Donald Trump has publicly offered Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) chief executive Dana White the position of White House press secretary, sparking widespread speculation about whether the high-profile sports executive will enter government service.

White, a longtime Trump ally, stopped short of accepting or rejecting the offer when questioned by reporters in London on Saturday. Instead, he said he was travelling to Washington, DC, for a meeting with the president on Monday, November 9, where the proposal is expected to be discussed.

The unusual offer has drawn attention because White has spent decades building the UFC into a global mixed martial arts powerhouse and has maintained a close personal and political relationship with Trump.

Trump Makes Public Job Offer to Dana White

Trump announced the offer in a post on his Truth Social platform on Saturday, describing White as a “violent Fighter and Warrior” and suggesting that his unconventional background would make him a distinctive choice for the White House communications role.

The president also proposed that White bring six UFC fighters to serve as assistants. He named Islam Makhachev, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Kayla Harrison.

Trump suggested that the group could help defend his administration against political opponents, using combative language to describe the role he envisioned for them.

The announcement immediately attracted attention online, with many questioning whether the proposal represented a serious appointment plan or an unconventional political gesture.

Neither the public announcement nor White's response confirmed a formal appointment or a start date.

White Responds Without Confirming His Decision

White was attending a boxing event in London when journalists asked whether he intended to accept the offer.

Rather than providing a direct answer, he said he would travel to Washington and meet Trump at the White House on Monday. He declined to disclose details of his discussions with the president, leaving his intentions unclear.

Before speaking to reporters, White had also shared Trump's announcement on Instagram alongside an image depicting him behind the podium in the White House briefing room. The caption read, “On to the next chapter.”

The post fuelled further speculation, although it did not establish that White had agreed to take the position.

Reports subsequently emerged suggesting that White had declined the offer. However, his public remarks about the planned meeting did not amount to a definitive confirmation of his decision.

A Longstanding Relationship With Trump

White and Trump have known each other for years, with their professional relationship dating back to the early 2000s, when Trump's casino properties hosted UFC events.

Their association grew stronger over time, particularly as Trump became a regular presence at major UFC events. White also emerged as one of Trump's most prominent supporters during his presidential campaigns.

He spoke at Republican National Conventions and publicly endorsed Trump during the 2024 election campaign, helping the Republican candidate connect with audiences interested in combat sports.

The two also collaborated on a major UFC event held on the White House grounds in June 2026 to mark Trump's 80th birthday.

White's visibility alongside the president has made him an influential figure beyond the sporting world, although running the UFC remains his principal professional responsibility.

White House Communications Position Remains Unsettled

The offer comes at a difficult moment for Trump's administration, which has been dealing with changes in its communications team following the departure of previous press secretary Karoline Leavitt and the brief tenure of her successor, Katie Zacharia.

Zacharia's departure after only five days in the position left the White House without a permanent press secretary, creating uncertainty over who would lead the administration's daily engagement with journalists.

The developments have coincided with significant Republican setbacks in the November 2026 midterm elections, increasing pressure on the administration as Democrats prepare to scrutinise its policies.

The press secretary plays a central role in communicating presidential decisions, answering questions from reporters and defending the administration's position on domestic and international issues.

Will Dana White Leave the UFC?

Whether White would consider leaving his leadership role at the UFC for a government position remains uncertain. His responsibilities in the sports industry involve overseeing a major international organisation with events, commercial partnerships and a global audience.

The White House job would place him at the centre of American political communications, requiring him to manage daily briefings and respond to sustained scrutiny from the media.

For now, White's planned meeting with Trump is the clearest indication that discussions may continue. Until he makes a definitive announcement, the possibility of his appointment remains unresolved.

The episode has highlighted Trump's willingness to consider unconventional candidates for prominent government roles, while leaving a key question unanswered: will one of his closest allies in professional fighting agree to become the public face of his administration?
