Artificial intelligence has transformed the way people search for information, create content and solve problems, but one part of the AI experience has remained unchanged: waiting for a response. Syed Naise, a 19-year-old developer from Hyderabad, is taking a different approach with SetAds, a free Chrome extension designed to turn the waiting time between an AI question and its response into an opportunity for users to earn.

SetAds Turns AI Waiting Time Into an Earning Opportunity

SetAds is built around a simple concept. When users ask a question through the platform, a short sponsored message can appear while the AI processes the request. Once the response is ready, the sponsored message disappears.

The idea is to make productive use of a period that users would otherwise spend watching a loading animation.

According to the platform’s model, 50% of advertising revenue is shared with the user, creating a revenue-sharing mechanism around AI chat usage.

Rather than asking users to spend additional time completing surveys or interacting with separate advertising platforms, SetAds connects the advertising experience directly to the natural waiting period within an AI chat session.

A Different Approach to AI Advertising

Digital advertising has traditionally focused on placing advertisements around content, websites and applications. SetAds approaches the model from a different perspective by focusing on the time users already spend waiting for AI-generated responses.

The extension is designed to operate within its own interface rather than injecting advertisements into third-party AI websites.

This distinction is important to the product’s positioning. SetAds is presented as an ad-supported AI chat product, rather than a browser layer that modifies another company’s AI platform or website.

The result is intended to create a more controlled environment in which AI interaction and sponsored content coexist within the same product.

The Idea Behind SetAds

For Syed Naise, the concept originated from observing a common pattern in everyday AI usage: users ask a question and then wait several seconds for the answer.

That recurring period of inactivity inspired a straightforward question—could the time users already spend waiting become economically valuable?

The SetAds concept attempts to answer that question by connecting the waiting period with advertising revenue.

“I kept noticing how much dead time exists in normal AI chat use, and nobody was doing anything with it,” said Syed Naise. “SetAds just asks: why should only the platform make money off your attention? Why not you too?”

The approach reflects a broader shift taking place across digital products, where user attention and engagement are increasingly being considered part of the economic value generated by online platforms.

Built by a 19-Year-Old Developer

One of the notable aspects of SetAds is its creator. Syed Naise is 19 years old and has developed the platform around the intersection of artificial intelligence, browser technology and digital advertising.

Building an AI-powered product at a young age highlights the increasing accessibility of software development tools and AI technologies, allowing independent developers to experiment with business models that previously required considerably larger teams and resources.

SetAds represents Naise’s attempt to build a product around a simple but unconventional proposition: users should have the opportunity to participate in the value generated by their attention.

SetAds Launches With a Focus on India

SetAds is initially rolling out in India, targeting users interested in accessible AI chat tools and alternative digital earning models.

The product is positioned as a free AI chat experience, with advertising providing the underlying monetisation mechanism. The revenue-sharing model is designed to give users a direct financial incentive while they use the service.

As AI adoption continues to expand across India, particularly among students, creators, professionals and entrepreneurs, products that combine AI utility with alternative monetisation models could attract increasing attention.

Rethinking the Relationship Between Users and Advertising

The SetAds model also raises a broader question about the relationship between digital users and advertising.

Most online advertising models treat users primarily as audiences whose attention is monetised by platforms. Revenue is generally retained by the platform, while users receive access to a service in exchange for viewing advertisements.

SetAds proposes a different structure: share part of the advertising revenue with the individual who views the sponsored message.

Whether this model can scale sustainably will depend on factors such as advertising demand, user adoption, AI operating costs and the economics of revenue sharing. Nevertheless, the concept introduces an interesting alternative to conventional AI-chat monetisation.

The Road Ahead for SetAds

As SetAds continues its rollout, its development will provide an opportunity to test whether users are willing to combine AI conversations with sponsored content in exchange for a share of advertising revenue.

The broader significance of the project may extend beyond one Chrome extension. If the model proves viable, it could encourage other developers and digital platforms to reconsider how advertising revenue is distributed and how users participate in the digital economy.

For now, SetAds is built around a remarkably simple proposition: if users are already waiting for AI to respond, that waiting time does not necessarily have to be worthless.
