Five Financial Changes to Watch in November 2026: ITR Deadlines, LPG Prices and Banking Rules

Five Financial Changes to Watch in November 2026: ITR Deadlines, LPG Prices and Banking Rules

November 2026 will bring several financial deadlines and policy changes that could affect taxpayers, pensioners, bank customers and households across India. From the revised income tax return filing deadline for certain audited taxpayers to changes in credit card charges and monthly LPG price reviews, consumers will need to keep track of developments that may affect their finances.

Some changes have confirmed implementation dates, while others, including LPG price revisions and fixed deposit interest rates, will depend on announcements by the relevant companies and banks.

1. Extended ITR Filing Deadline for Audited Taxpayers

The deadline for filing income tax returns for specified taxpayers whose accounts require a tax audit has been extended to November 21, 2026, for the relevant assessment year.

The extension provides additional time for eligible businesses, professionals and other covered taxpayers to complete their tax returns after the audit process.

However, the revised deadline does not apply to every taxpayer. Individuals and businesses should verify the due date applicable to their category and ensure that all required documents and tax calculations are completed before filing.

Missing an applicable deadline can lead to penalties, interest or other compliance issues, depending on the circumstances.

2. LPG Cylinder Prices May Be Revised

Oil marketing companies generally review liquefied petroleum gas prices at the beginning of each month. As a result, domestic and commercial LPG cylinder rates may be revised from November 1.

The final prices will depend on the companies' announcements and relevant market conditions. International energy prices, currency movements and other cost factors can influence domestic fuel pricing.

Any revision could affect household budgets as well as restaurants, hotels and other businesses that rely on commercial cylinders.

Consumers should check the officially announced rates rather than assuming that a price increase or reduction is certain before the monthly review takes place.

3. Pensioners Must Submit Their Annual Life Certificates

Pensioners covered by the applicable central government pension rules must submit their annual life certificates during November to help ensure that pension payments continue without interruption.

For most eligible pensioners below 80 years of age, the submission period runs from November 1 to November 30. Pensioners aged 80 and above generally have an earlier submission window beginning in October.

The certificate confirms that the pension recipient is alive and remains eligible to receive payments. It can be submitted through authorised digital services or the prescribed physical channels.

Pensioners should confirm the requirements with their pension-disbursing bank or relevant authority and complete the process before the applicable deadline.

4. Revised Banking and Credit Card Charges

Some banks are introducing changes to selected credit card charges and account-related services from November 1.

Punjab National Bank, for example, is revising certain fees, including charges related to reward-point redemption, cash withdrawals and high-value utility bill payments. The applicable amount can depend on the transaction, card variant and the bank's published terms.

Customers should review the latest fee schedule for their own card or account before making transactions that could attract additional charges. Applicable taxes may also be added to certain fees.

These changes are bank-specific rather than a uniform increase affecting every bank customer in India.

5. Fixed Deposit Rates and GST Changes

Banks may review fixed deposit interest rates in response to changes in funding requirements, liquidity conditions and monetary policy. However, no universal FD rate change should be assumed for November without an announcement from the relevant bank.

Depositors approaching maturity should compare the latest rates and terms before renewing their deposits. Existing deposits generally continue under their agreed conditions unless the applicable contract or rules provide otherwise.

Separately, changes to selected Goods and Services Tax provisions are scheduled to begin on November 1. The measures include adjustments concerning post-sale discounts and provisional tax refunds for eligible businesses. These changes are intended to simplify certain compliance processes and improve cash flow for affected businesses.

What Consumers Should Do

November's financial developments will affect different groups in different ways. Taxpayers should confirm their filing deadlines, pensioners should submit life certificates on time, and bank customers should check whether revised charges apply to their accounts.

Households should wait for official LPG price announcements, while depositors should verify current FD rates directly with their banks. Checking the effective date and eligibility conditions for each change can help people avoid unnecessary expenses and missed deadlines.
