Bhopal | June 2026
The Madhya Pradesh government has announced an extension of the summer vacation for teachers in response to the severe heatwave affecting several districts across the state. The decision was taken to safeguard the health and well-being of teaching staff while maintaining the planned reopening schedule for students.
According to the revised schedule, teachers were asked to report for duty from June 7, while schools across Madhya Pradesh are scheduled to reopen for students on June 16 after the summer break. The state government said the decision was based on prevailing weather conditions and administrative assessment.
Heatwave Conditions Across Madhya Pradesh
Several parts of Madhya Pradesh witnessed extremely high daytime temperatures during the first week of June, prompting authorities to review educational schedules. Weather conditions remained challenging in many districts, particularly during afternoon hours.
Officials stated that extending the vacation for teachers would help reduce unnecessary exposure to extreme temperatures while allowing schools sufficient time to prepare for the upcoming academic session.
Schools to Resume Academic Activities
While teachers received an extended break, students are expected to return to classrooms from June 16, marking the beginning of the new academic session across government and many private schools in the state.
Education department officials have also instructed schools to ensure that drinking water facilities, classroom ventilation and basic infrastructure are ready before reopening.
Impact on Students and Parents
Parents have welcomed the government’s move, considering the intense summer conditions experienced across Madhya Pradesh. Education experts believe that protecting staff and students during extreme weather is essential while ensuring minimal disruption to the academic calendar.
Weather Outlook
Meteorological forecasts indicate that pre-monsoon activity is expected to increase gradually during the second half of June, which could provide relief from the prolonged heatwave experienced across central India.
