Indian para-archer Sheetal Devi has achieved another important milestone outside sports by successfully passing her Class 12 examinations. The 19-year-old athlete shared the academic news shortly after delivering an outstanding performance at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Nagoya, Japan, where she won two gold medals and one silver.
Sheetal's latest achievement has attracted attention because it highlights her progress in both education and competitive sport. After months of preparation for international competitions, she has added another accomplishment to an already remarkable year.
The young archer announced her Class 12 result through a social media story, confirming that she had passed the examination. Her announcement came just a day after her impressive performances on the archery range.
Two Gold Medals in a Single Day
Sheetal enjoyed a memorable day at the Asian Para Games on October 22, winning two gold medals within a short period.
Her first gold came in the compound mixed team event, where she partnered with fellow Indian archer Toman Kumar. The Indian pair defeated Indonesia 151–148 in the final to retain the title.
Sheetal returned to the competition later that day for the women's compound individual final. Despite falling four points behind Singapore's Nur Syahidah Alim during the early stages, she produced a strong comeback to win 142–139.
The victory allowed her to defend the individual title she had won at the previous edition of the Asian Para Games.
Her two gold medals followed a silver medal in the women's compound doubles event, which she won alongside fellow Indian archer Payal Nag. The results gave Sheetal a total of three medals at the competition.
Academic Success Alongside Sporting Excellence
Passing Class 12 represents a significant personal milestone for Sheetal, who has balanced her education with the demands of elite-level para-archery.
Competitive athletes often follow intensive training schedules involving technical practice, physical preparation, travel and international competitions. Managing academic responsibilities alongside these commitments requires careful planning and consistent effort.
Sheetal's announcement demonstrates that her achievements extend beyond the sporting arena. Her progress in education also highlights the importance of supporting athletes as they pursue academic qualifications alongside professional sporting goals.
Although her recent medals have brought considerable attention, completing her school education remains an important accomplishment in its own right.
A Remarkable Journey in Para-Archery
Born without arms, Sheetal has developed a distinctive technique that enables her to compete against leading archers internationally. She positions and controls her bow using her feet and legs, drawing and releasing the string with the help of her shoulder and jaw.
Her performances have established her among the leading athletes in para-archery. She previously won two gold medals and a silver at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou in 2023, demonstrating her ability to perform consistently at major competitions.
She also earned a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, adding another achievement to her growing international record.
At the 2026 Asian Para Games, her individual victory required patience and precision after her opponent established an early advantage. Sheetal responded with a series of high-scoring arrows before maintaining her lead in the final end.
Her mixed team victory with Toman Kumar further demonstrated her ability to perform in different competitive formats.
Looking Ahead to Future Goals
Sheetal has expressed an ambition to compete at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics in the able-bodied category, in addition to continuing her journey in para-archery.
Achieving that goal would require further preparation, qualification and participation in the relevant competitions. For now, her recent performances have strengthened her record at the continental level.
With two gold medals, one silver and a successful Class 12 result, Sheetal has had a memorable week in both sport and education.
Her latest achievement offers a reminder that academic progress and sporting ambitions can develop alongside one another. As she continues preparing for future competitions, her education will remain another important part of her journey.
