Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan has reflected on an old statement about his box-office success, admitting that he now regrets publicly boasting about his run of hit films. During his appearance on Koffee With Karan Season 9, the actor explained how his perspective on professional success has changed over the years.
The conversation revisited a memorable moment from Season 6, when Varun confidently compared his record with those of fellow actors Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. At the time, he claimed that neither actor had achieved the same consecutive success he had enjoyed, saying he had delivered eight hits in a row.
Looking back, Varun suggested that speaking so confidently about his achievements may not have been the right approach.
Varun Says an Actor’s Work Should Speak for Itself
During the latest episode, host Karan Johar brought up the online attention Varun has received over the years, including memes based on his expressions and smile. The discussion led to a broader conversation about how public perception and social media reactions can affect an actor's image.
Varun said that with experience and maturity, he had realised that an artist should focus on work rather than repeatedly highlighting personal achievements.
Reflecting on his earlier appearance, he said that he had spoken too openly about the number of successful films he had delivered. He added that, in his view, the boast seemed to have brought an unfortunate turn in his career, describing it as something that had “jinxed” him.
His comment was made in a light-hearted, reflective context rather than as a literal explanation for the performance of his films.
Revisiting the Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh Comparison
The original remark came during Season 6 of the talk show. Karan Johar had asked Varun to identify whether Ranbir Kapoor or Ranveer Singh was his bigger competitor.
Varun responded that neither was a bigger competitor at that stage, pointing to his own record of eight consecutive successful films. The confident answer became a widely discussed moment from the episode.
During the latest conversation, Karan reminded him of the statement. Janhvi Kapoor, who was also part of the discussion, pointed out that the number being discussed had reached 11 by that stage. Varun acknowledged the correction but avoided turning the exchange into another declaration about his achievements.
He explained that he did not want to sound as though he was boasting again. The exchange highlighted how differently he now approaches comparisons and discussions about commercial success.
Why Varun Looks Up to Ajay Devgn
Varun also spoke about actor Ajay Devgn, identifying him as an example of someone who maintains a composed attitude regardless of whether a film succeeds or struggles at the box office.
According to Varun, Devgn treats people consistently through both professional highs and lows. He said that this ability to remain steady was something he admired and hoped to learn from.
The observation reflected the central lesson Varun wanted to convey: an actor's achievements are better demonstrated through performances than through public claims about success.
What Lies Ahead for the Actor
Varun continues to have several projects associated with his name. One of the titles attracting audience interest is Bhediya 2, the planned sequel to his 2022 film. He also has a project associated with filmmaker Rahul Pandey that has been reported as being in development, although details remain limited.
His latest comments offer a glimpse into how he views fame and professional achievement after years in the film industry. Rather than focusing on past box-office records, Varun appears keen to let future performances shape the conversation around his career.
